How to select a homeopathic remedy
The first step in choosing a well-indicated homeopathic remedy is to "take the case".
This involves collecting all of the symptoms so that you can select the remedy which most matches the symptoms.
There are hundreds of homeopathic remedies to select from, so one symptom is not enough to prescribe on.
Here are some things to think about when selecting an ‘indicated’ remedy:
What is the main symptom?
What is the secondary symptom?
Is there pain? What does the pain feel like? Does the pain move around? When is the pain worse? When is the pain better?
Are you thirsty?
Have you lost your appetite?
If the symptom is visible, what does it look like? Is it hot?
What makes the symptom better? What makes it worse
What else is affected? For example, mood, sleep, energy
Once you have the information you are ready to go and look up the remedies in the Repertory and the Materia Medica to find the remedy that matches the most.
How to choose a homeopathic potency
The next step once you have selected a homeopathic remedy is to decide on the potency.
Most homeopathic remedies that are sold in natural health shops in the UK are 30c.
The 30c potency is useful for most first aid situations.
If you would like either higher or lower potencies, these can be bought direct from a homeopathic pharmaceutical company.
The potencies of 12c or 30c are most commonly used for first aid where there is a physical injury or pain, such as for cuts, stings, and warts.
For emotional issues such as a specific fear, you may consider a 200c or 1M potency. An example of where this may be useful is fear of flying.
These higher potency remedies should only be taken occasionally.
If symptoms persist, contact a professional homeopath who will give a full consultation to address the cause of the fear.
How to decide what dose to take
Take one dose at a time. One dose is one pill. Two pills have the same effect as one pill. Three pills have the same effect as one pill. This is very different from traditional medicine.
A homeopathy pill can either be put straight into the mouth or it can be dissolved in water.
Pop the homeopathic pill into your mouth. Suck the pill. The remedy is absorbed through the lining of the mouth. It goes straight into the bloodstream.
Dissolving in water is a good way for sensitive people to avoid aggravations.
What to expect after taking the homeopathic remedy
There are three things that might happen after giving a remedy.
First aid remedies cannot help address the cause of the issue. If your symptoms keep recurring or have been going on for longer than 3 months, find a homeopath who can help you address the cause of the problem.
